Easter Profanity
The vulgarity of Holy Day threats
Christians of all denominations gathered on Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
Jesus, born into poverty with working class parents. Jesus, who manifested loaves and fishes so that all could be fed. Jesus, who healed the outcast, the leper, and the faithful alike. And for the radical love he manifested, Jesus was betrayed, beaten, mocked, and murdered in the most hideous of ways via the Roman empire’s favorite way of terrifying the citizenry: crucifixion.
Crucifixion, derived from the Latin roots cruci (cross) and figere (to fasten or fix). An innocent man hung from nails driven into his hands and feet. He hung in the heat of a middle eastern day until he died. This is the image Christians meditate upon during Good Friday vigils. This is the sacrifice of God’s son for our sake.
Then tomb is found empty and Jesus is raised from the dead! “Alleluia! Our Lord Is Risen!” the hymns proclaim. Trumpets sound, a chorus of voices raise to praise the triumph of love over death.
Easter egg hunts, worship services, chocolate bunnies (not really a Jesus thing, but, okay, we all love them!), meals with family, prayers for peace and prayers that we might become like Jesus and show love for all filled the day of most Americans.
In contrast, Trump bastardized Easter by issuing vulgar war rhetoric on social media.
How and when did public profanity become “Christian” leadership?

“Our Lord represents humility, sacrifice, compassion, empathy and truth. Everything he is not.”
~ U.S. Representative Debbie Dingell (D-MI)
I’m not Catholic. Nor identify politically with the Democrat Party. Yet I can relate to the sentiment in this quote.
Thanks, Donna Marie for speaking out to DJT’s profanity. Unfortunately, his “Easter Message”, as it were, was neither a “one off”, a “gaffe”, or anything less than reckless and reprehensible “leadership” unbecoming of a POTUS (let alone a “Commander in Chief”).
Intent on doubling down in crass stupidity, this total loser posted a meme depicting himself in the image of a “savior”, which outrageously portrayed him symbolically as a ‘Christlike’ figure replete with angels… AND, leaving no stone untouched, he demeaned the Roman Catholic Pope for giving testimony to the Gospel.
Our President… MY President… is SICK. Full Stop.
And through our silence, we support his reign of terror. There are countless examples of how he and his administration go well beyond “chaos” and disruption into the realm of outright crazy.
You can’t make this stuff up.
And it has to stop.
